Obesity is slowly becoming a major contributor to many of the major health issues that are being faced by people all around the world. People seem to have realized this and are always doing something  to lose weight. While they succeed in their weight losing endeavor, maintaining the weight loss is becoming a trickier issue for them. This is where diet supplements come into play in any weight loss regimen. Yacon syrup is one such supplement that has become popular in the recent times.

Yacon is a vegetable that is native to the Andes Mountain in South America. Since it tastes like a milder version of an apple, it is also called as Peru’s apple of the earth. It belongs to the tuber family and resembles the potato.

The source of the syrup is the root of the plant. It is high in fiber and low in calories due to which it was used heavily in the ancient times by the Incas. The pure form of the syrup contains a chemical called FOS or Fructooligosaccharide which is a naturally occurring alternative sweetener. The syrup also contains low levels of simple sugars.

The low glycemic index of the syrup means that the food will take longer to be converted into glucose. This results in lower spike in blood sugar which in turn controls the fat gain of the body. Also the syrup behaves as a probiotic and acts as a food for friendly Flora bacteria like Lactobacillus and Bifidus that are present in the intestinal systems and colon. This enhances metabolism and improves digestion in the body which results in weight loss. FOS is known to control the creation of some gastrointestinal peptides that are involved in the regulation of food cravings. Because of this character, the syrup also acts as a natural appetite suppressant.

The Yacon syrup increases metabolism, controls fat gain and regulates cravings and emotional eating, thus assisting the body effectively in any weight loss regimen.
